NCOs On Parade

This new page was born out of the idea that the majority of TAW is built around our non-commissioned members. This page will represent those members with questions that will give insight into various subject matter, both personal and TAW related. If you'd like to participate, please send an email to [email protected].
Could you tell our readers a little about your personal life, e.g. where you’re from, do you work or are you still in school.
Currently I am back in school after working in construction engineering for over 18 years. I am going for my Theatre/Studio Art degree. I am a Stage Manager for plays and a Photographer now in my spare time. I plan to graduate next summer and start a Teaching Fellowship, where I go to low income school districts and help out. my photography can be seen at www.alexiecruz.com
Could you give our readers some background on your gaming career?
Atari 800XL was my first platform. A computer with 32K memory, a tape deck for memory and a phone handset receiver to use for a 300 baud modem. From there it was consoles 'til computers got decent enough with Wolfenstien. I enjoy mostly strategy and RPGs. My current game selections are WARFACE, SWTOR and Conan Exiles.
What brought you to the TAW community?
I was part of a very good clan on Planetside 2, but it seemed to die off, moving from competition based to just zerging. When I found warface, no one there liked it, but I did, so I looked for a clan. I happened to stumble on the forum, looked over the site as best I could, then applied. Now I am here, and glad I did.
What was your first impression of TAW?
First I thought it was too much military, rank and file. I didn’t see the need for it, but I wanted to see it for myself. And slowly it fit, the necessity for the structure. Now that I see it more clearly, I understand it and understand why the structure was chosen. The people in WARFACE were open right from the start. I thought they knew each other for a long time, and on most occasions they did, but they treated new people similarly as well. They are what definitely gave weight to the stay option when I was a recruit. Now here I am with responsibilities and still having fun in the game.
From your point of view, what is one of the most important benefits of being in a gaming community such as TAW and why?
Camaraderie primarily. Unless you are in a solo RPG game, you want people you can play with, but also people you can have a relationship with. There are times I will play other games and stay in chat, or not even be in game at all, but be in chat.
Do you at this point in time have any aspirations towards taking on a leadership role? If yes, why?
Due to my schedule and timeline, considering I am changing my career, I cannot take more of a leadership role. Once I get my last year of school done and get my job started, then I can think about it. I have worked in 501s before, I was a Board Member of my National Fraternity and know some of the struggles dealing with a non-profit.
Do you have any special hobbies or activities outside of TAW?
Photography. Riding my Harley [FLS - Softtail Slim].
