In The Scope: Cleonalla
Cleonalla [SOCOP DO] is something of a rarity in TAW. She was not only recruited directly into Operations Command [OS], she has spent her entire time in TAW as a member volunteering valuable skill and expertice not to enjoy a game, but to give the entire community a better place to enjoy playing. She currently serves in the Division Officer role for TAW’s Social Operations Corps [SOCOP], spreading the word to the rest of the world about what we as a gaming community has to offer. She was kind enough to give her old running crew in NEWS a few minutes of her time to share her somewhat unique perspective on what it means to be part of The Art of Warfare.
Tell us a little about yourself and your time in TAW.
I’m from a small town in the deep south of the United States. Currently, I live approximately 20 minutes away from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was definitely different growing up as a nerd in a tiny country town, but I made the best of it. My ex-boyfriend (Terephim) was in TAW for quite a while with the League of Legends guys, so I had known about TAW for a while. I would pop in and play games with people from time to time and I had a blast.
At least according to your profile, you are one of those extremely rare people who joined TAW directly into OS, not a gaming division in Army. How did this come about?
Well, Terephim eventually moved to the NEWS division and after a while kept talking about how he was having a tough time getting decent content for the newsletter. I was familiar with TAW, but with my college and work schedule at a time, I was never able to join a game because I couldn’t guarantee practice times. He was in a real tough spot and I happen to be a great writer. I enjoy it and write for fun, with aspirations to be published. I gave him the idea that he could use my talents as a writer in the NEWS division so after talking to several people to make sure it was okay, he brought me in to help out. I ended up organizing a lot of information for the group and writing/proofing several publications. It turned out to be pretty awesome!
What is the SOCOP division responsible for in TAW?
SOCOP handles the social media accounts for TAW. Think of us as TAW’s Public Relations Team. We make sure things get posted to Reddit, Twitter, Steam, and Facebook. We dig for things on the website and always welcome divisions to send us anything they want put out there. We alert people of events, changes, and fun stuff happening in the community.
What do you feel your role in SOCOP is?
Right now, my official role is still in the works. We’re in the process of recruiting people to handle the social media accounts so that I can back away from posting from the 4 platforms and focus more on the development and monitoring portion of being a Division Officer.
What do you feel the overall mission of SOCOP is?
SOCOP’s mission is to be there for the Divisions and be the voice of TAW. We want everyone to know how awesome our community is so that people want to experience being part of the TAW Family. Any time I have jumped into a random channel to get to know people, they have been more than welcoming and have been highly entertaining. We want more people to see that and be part of that.
SOCOP has been looking for new members recently, how does one go about joining SOCOP and what is expected of your members?
Spots are beginning to fill up but there is still room. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the SOCOP team needs to email myself ([email protected]) and Sloan ([email protected]) with who they are, why they are interested, and what they are looking to do as part of the team. We’re always welcoming those that think outside the box and have fresh ideas for how to keep up with our social media following. You never know what someone will come up with.
What advice would you give to somebody considering a leadership position in TAW?
Being a leader in TAW is just like being a leader anywhere else. It’s tough work, but if it is something you are passionate about and dedicated to it can be a very rewarding experience. Don’t jump into it just for the new badge and rank next to your name. You have to want to take your division somewhere awesome to make it work. Just like Cherry [CC OC] said in his Servant Leadership Training - Don’t be a leader for the fame and glory.
What is your favorite thing about TAW as a community?
My favorite thing has got to be the diversity. I have met people from all over the world and in so many different walks of life. It’s amazing the things I have learned from other members. This community really is spectacular. I think it’s one that has something to offer everyone if they want to take the dive. There’s really never a dull moment around here. I love it!
In The Scope: Sloan
The Social Operations Corps [SOCOP] division of Operations Corps Command [OS] is perhaps the least clearly defined unit in all of TAW. They are the guys who run all of the official TAW social media sites as well as help to get the word out for anything upcoming from one division or another. If TAW posted it on Facebook, it came from SOCOP. If you read 140 characters from TAW on Twitter, SOCOP penned the tweet. In a word, SOCOP is the Voice of TAW, and the man behind the microphone is none other than Col. Sloan [SOCOP DC].
Tell us a little about yourself and your time in TAW.
Well first of all I actually started off in Neverwinter [NW] and spun that up quickly working my way up to CO where I made captain. After that I then decided that I would try my hand at SOCOP and have been there ever since where I made DC and eventually one of the most prestigious ranks in my opinion of Colonel.
Operations is a unique part of TAW that isn’t dedicated to a specific game, how did you end up in SOCOP?
I actually had a way in because I was good with words and hence took over on Facebook and started looking after that. I’m a people person and SOCOP is a people orientated division that is constantly evolving which appeals to my creative nature.
What is the SOCOP division responsible for in TAW?
We are responsible for every social media aspect you can think of which encompasses Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Steam, and even YouTube. If you have an event/activity/recruiting drive/competition that would like advertising, you contact either me or my guys and get it done.
What are your goals as a leader of the SOCOP Division?
My goals as the leader of the SOCOP division is to effectively grow and expand the image of TAW through social media and get our name and reputation more widely recognized.
What do you feel the overall mission of SOCOP is?
The overall mission of SOCOP is to promote all of the divisions’ activities and recruiting as we can facilitate this through our use of social media thus growing TAW as a whole and once again getting our name out to the general public at large!
SOCOP has been looking for new members recently, how does one go about joining SOCOP and what is expected of your members?
That’s easy enough actually, if you think you are a people person and have a good grasp of the social media outlets we use and think you can improve it then I basically want you. The route to joining SOCOP is kiiiiinda weird, in fact it’s the reverse of what you would think! You have to let me or my DO know and we then put it up OUR CoC who then put it down to the transferring members CoC.
What advice would you give to somebody considering a leadership position in TAW?
There are a couple of bits of advice I could give to someone is just do what you do, show a willingness to help out, and learn the position of the person above you and you will eventually get noticed, I would like to think myself as a prime example of that!
What is your favorite thing about TAW as a community?
That’s a very easy question to answer and that’s the camaraderie of TAW and the way everyone just works together, talks together, plays together. TAW is one big family that you can fall back on if things are getting you down and immediately feel better!
