DEVOP: An interview about the myth, TAW 3.0! Or is it reality?
-Rekon
“TAW 3.0”. To some it’s a myth, others a dream. But to the guys on the TAW DEVOP Team, it’s a reality. Recently, a member made an inquiry on the forums about it. This brought to light some questions that were being whispered in the winds, you can find that post here.
But I’ve been around TAW long enough to hear some of those whispers, the questions plaguing everyone’s minds, about when the new TAW site will be up. The TFO’s have been fortunate enough to see some of “teasers” from DEVOP Team on the new site, at our monthly meetings.
So, we reached out to the DEVOP DC PrimeStick and DO TigerFang to ask some of the questions that have been whispered, and boy did they answer.
1. Interviewer: Many of us already heard of it, but would you please explain exactly what TAW 3.0 is?
PrimeStick: TAW 3.0 is what we are calling the complete rewrite of the TAW.net website. We are using modern “languages” and development techniques that will allow TAW3.0 to last for years to come.
2. Interviewer: When did DEVOP Team start working on the website and how many are currently working on it?
PrimeStick: There had been a few attempts before I joined DEVOP, and this is the 3rd iteration of the project under myself. Even with all these setbacks and start overs, this is the closest to completion any attempt has come. Currently leroydev is the primary back end programmer and inergy is the front end developer. Without these two members we wouldn't be where are in the project today.
3. Interviewer: Why do we need a new website?
PrimeStick: The old site, 2.0, is dated and extremely hard to update or change anything. There are workflow changes that everyone wants, that can't be done without building the new site.
4. Interviewer: What are some of the cool new features on TAW 3.0?
PrimeStick: the best new feature is the modular code design. This will allow us to update, fix, and change TAW.net over the years of its life. I also have no doubt, that everyone will enjoy the updated UI and the new events system.
5. Interviewer: Is there anything the members can do to assist DEVOP Team to help get this new website up and running faster?
PrimeStick: We need JavaScript developers, but your support and kudos is always great as well. If you see Leroydev around tell him thank you!
6. Interviewer: When is the projected launch date for TAW 3.0?
PrimeStick: Currently early to mid 2018, if we conjure up more JavaScript developers we could reduce that time frame.
In addition to the amazing news from PrimeStick, TigerFang has taken to the forums to handle the previously mentioned thread with information such as….
“Thank you for your interest in what we are doing in Devop and the work on Taw 3.0. It is good to see people are wanting it to be complete as much as we do. It has been a very long road with lots of false starts and pitfalls but it is happening. It is slow progress but it is progressing. “
He even went as far as to get us some beautiful screenshots of the new site.
So as you can see, TAW 3.0 is no longer a myth. It is no longer a whisper. It is a dream becoming reality for all of TAW. If you have the skills to be able to assist the DEVOP Team, please contact the DC/DO to offer your assistance.
To the DEVOP Team, we thank you for all your dedication and hard work that is going into this new site, and for taking the time to do this interview.
We’ve done it! 3K followers!!!
