View of the Inside
By Rekon [RS DO]
The TAW Education Center is truly a Division like none other, a beast all on it’s own. When members look at EDU, they can see a number of different things. They could see a bunch of stuffy people writing nonsense just for something to do or they could see that EDU really does focus on the members of TAW. No matter how you choose to look at EDU, I have to say first hand that being a part of EDU has made me a better servant leader.
TAW Education Center is not about teaching, it’s about creating. EDU takes ideas and creates works of art. The dedication, research, and creative writing skills of the members of EDU is beyond fathomable. Picture a piece of wood. You could stare at it thinking, “Hey, this would make nice firewood so I can roast marshmallows” or you could look at it in a way that frees your mind. You could grab your tools and start to work; chip and chisel and carve away until you are left with a work of art. It may look like an animal, a statue of a horse, or it could be a working machine, a small tank with rolling tracks and an articulating gun. Whatever it becomes the point is you created something from nothing more than an idea and a platform. That is exactly what Education Center does. EDU takes the raw materials of ideas and uses the platforms of video and text to turn them into the courses that help further develop the leadership of our community.
When I first transferred to TAW Education Center, I thought it was all about just teaching the classes and at first it was. Within my first week, I had conducted so many classes that I had to buy a case of water and keep it next to my computer because of how raw my throat would get from teaching. Then our commanding officer decided that he wanted our division to step up its game. He started having us write new classes and not long after that, the call came from Army Command to rewrite the established classes for every leadership position in TAW. We broke off into teams, were given the baseline of what we were working on, and started to research and work together to create the EDU classes that will be launched in 2017. We worked collectively to produce content and reviewed each other’s work and held nothing back. Every EDU member wanted the sames thing, to provide the best resources possible for TAW. It was then I realized that everyone serving in EDU was the purest form of servant leader. Everyone worked for their brothers and sisters first with the objective in mind and leadership gave assistance, not orders.
Everything in EDU is focused on one thing: helping the members become better players and leaders. Courses are written for each position in TAW so that a member will have a solid ground to build on. In the end, that’s what The Art of Warfare is about; people voluntarily serving others. With TAW University making its triumphant return in 2017, EDU will further that mission to more than just leadership positions. If you have a desire to serve, create, and be a part of more than just one of TAW’s many gaming divisions, consider talking to EDU and seeing what you can carve from the wood.
In closing, I have to say the following:
Thanks EDU for giving us a new way to grow.
