This month we are fortunate enough to catch up with RowanRainsong, one of our newer Corp Commanders from 6th Corps. She will be telling us about her experiences in TAW and how she has grown as a leader in the community.
News is pleased to bring you an in depth live interview with RowanRainsong, Rowan has been with us for just over 3 years now most of it spent in ArcheAge. She has just moved up from CLC to CC recently, and we are pleased to be able to get her take on leadership and what this community means to her.
Maj. sTim - BattleField 1 Division Officer
Tell us a little about yourself and your time in TAW.
My name is sTim and I am the Division Officer for the Battlefield 1 division. When I joined TAW i started of at the Battlefield 3 division. It didn’t took long for me to take up the position of Drill Instructor to help the division grow. Soon after I got asked to step up as a Platoon Leader (PL). I did this for a couple of months until our Staff Officer (SO) stepped down and I got approached to take his position. After some changes in our Chain of Command and having learned a lot of being a leader as PL and SO I volunteered to become Commanding Officer (CO).
When Battlefield 4 got released I stepped down as CO but I still wanted to help the battalion so I took the role of Server Admin (SA). With the leave of some of our officers I eventually stepped up again and took the role of Staff Officer (SO) and not short after Executive Officer (XO).
With the release of Battlefield 1 our whole division got transferred over so I kept the role of XO. Until a couple of months ago when Vermguy approached me asking if I wanted to step up as Division Officer (DO). I was happy to try something new so I accepted his offer.
You have been in TAW since October 2011, what would you say in your experience keep’s TAW relevant in todays gaming community environment?
The fact that we keep releasing new games and organizing events. Also all the training opportunities we give to our members, ranging from game related events to the education classes regarding roles within the Chain of Command. This makes it so that we keep growing as a community.
What advice would you give to somebody considering a leadership position in TAW?
I think an important aspect of being a leader is being able to listen to your members and to show them you are there for them when they need you. I am a big fan of the “open door” policy, meaning that members are always welcome to come to me if they need my assistance, or if they just want to have a chat.
On a lighter side, can you tell us what was your favorite game in TAW and Why?
As you can notice from my history in TAW I always have been a big fan of the Battlefield franchise. I had a lot of fun being a Platoon Leader during my time in the Battlefield 3 division. It changes your view on the game, you need to keep track of the bigger picture of a match and make sure you continually adapt your tactics to counter the enemy team.
I also spend quite some time robbing banks with the Payday 2 division. It was a nice switch to play a Co-op game compared to the player versus player matches from Battlefield. I met some nice and friendly people there and always enjoyed playing with them.
What is your favorite thing about TAW as a community?
In my opinion the nicest thing about TAW is being part of a big family. No matter which games you like to play there are always people online that you can join. It is also a nice way to learn more about a specific game and practice with skillful players. Thanks to TAW i have made a lot of new friends from around the world and became a better gamer while doing so.
