For this month’s ‘In the Scope’, we went for a support / social theme, with a member of SOCOP, a PIO, and a member of Treasury all answering a whole range of questions. Domanator would like to ask all DCs and DOs to make sure that they have logins for Zero, and to ask anyone with questions or problems regarding Treasury issues please to get in contact ASAP.

SOCOP - Shyewyn [SOCOP DO]
How long have you been in TAW?
I have been in TAW for 1 year and 5 months
How did you come to be in your current position?
I came to my current position due to working hard on improving the community Facebook page and by restarting the PIO Meetings as the PIO Liasion. I also showed the capabilities to run SOCOP (mostly) independently.
What is you favourite thing about TAW as a community?
My favourite thing would be the diversity of gamers who have joined the community. Meeting someone new and interesting everyday is what has kept me going.
Any funny stories from your time in TAW?
There was this time a few months back when I joined SOCOP for the first time (I transferred out later) and I was having some banter by the LL 3 battalion for leaving them, especially by their SO at the time. One practice where I decided to give them a visit and play with them, their SO was giving me of a little bit of a hard time (in a fun way!) because I transferred out. I decided it would be funny to call in Sloan and see what he would do. Sloan came into the channel where there were around 50 members and laid down the LAW, it was great!

ARMA 3 - Katsune [AM PIO]
Tell us a little about yourself and your time in TAW.
I started out in TAW in the Digital Combat Simulator division as a rotary pilot. I enjoyed my time with the division, and after a time away, I joined the ARMA division. I knew several of the members and they convinced me to return. It wasn't a difficult decision.
How is your division currently doing?
The ARMA division in TAW is currently going through a few changes, the most important being the release of the Apex expansion on 11th July. Our division is very excited and mission makers have been working pretty much nonstop since the release was announced. I am looking forward to see the exciting missions they have come up with for the battalions.
What would you say TAW has that other gaming communties don't?
A strong sense of community and a stability and longevity that one doesn't usually find in most gaming communities. The Teamspeak is usually busy, unless it's really late at night or early in the morning, and people hop from game to game with other members. You can find someone to play almost any game TAW offers at any given time.
How do you feel your previous leadership positions prepare you for your current position?
I've spent a lot of time in administrative positions that require me to be outgoing and personable to people while at the same time delegating duties and keeping a good and level attitude. I feel it's important for the person in the Public Information Officer position to be a positive force in the development of social media content, both for recruiting purposes and as an affable leader.
What is something about you that people might not expect?
I am actually very introverted in real life. It takes me a while to warm up to people.

TREASURY - Domanator (Treasury Support Commander)
Not many members are that familiar with Treasury, what do you do?
Treasury look after all the money that comes into TAW. We check everything that comes in and allocate it to the correct division. Additionally, we also look after all of the passwords for TAW, so we hold all the ‘keys to the kingdom’, as such. We also do support for server providers, and loads of accounting functions…I’d love to explain, but I’d probably put us both to sleep talking about them!
How many people are in Treasury, and what would an average day look like?
There’s currently myself, TOMAMOKO and we have Sharp underneath us at the minute. My job every day is to go in and reconcile with the bank what the accounting software says, so in other words make sure that all monies that come in have been allocated correctly. We also sort out any major queries with the bank as quickly as possible. We’ll also sort out any internal billing queries, I tend to let Tomo actually pay the bills, as I don’t really like parting with money!!
How often do you guys meet up?
We’re in constant contact; Facebook messenger, Teamspeak, email, carrier pigeons…
Do you have any interesting stories from your time in TAW?
The best is probably when I got my Gump Medal; I was a server admin for the Natural Selection server. During my monthly password change to keep everything secure, I logged out after changing them all…and promptly forgot the password. You could say I made the servers REALLY secure.
How did you get into Treasury? Do you have real-life experience that steered you towards it?
Yes, I’m an accountant in real-life, so I spend the majority of my day doing accounts, running payrolls and so forth, so it just felt like a natural extension to do it with TAW. I did spend a while as the Division Commander of DevOps; I achieved the grand total of nothing, I was asked to lead the team but my lack of programming experience didn’t really help at all. Thankfully, in Treasury I’ve been able to help, and I’ve changed us from our old accounting system of Just Cash to Xero, which saves so much time.
So how does Xero help?
Xero is a piece of all-round fund management software and accountancy package. It makes my life simple, and means I can spend less time on reconciliations and more time dealing with membership and issues they have. It also allows me to display the numbers in a more reader-friendly way, so I can present profit / loss stats without boring everyone to tears!
